The absolute WORST thing you've ever tasted?

Postby DamianaRaven » Sun Dec 31, 2017 6:10 am

The worst thing I can remember is this diabetic tussin cough syrup. Gyah, that was just horrible! I also can't stand the metallic whang of cardamom pods. That tends to screw up my taste buds for hours, so I can't eat Indian food without making damn sure there's no cardamom in it.

Plus, I'm one of those people to whom cilantro tastes like dish soap.

The first time I ever had communion wine.

I was seven, you see. My mother's a bit of an anglophile, so my experience with alchohol up until that point was watching people on television or in movies sitting around in offices downing glasses of sherry like it was cream soda, with a cheery toast to her majesty and a stiff upper lip.

So, when I was in Sunday school, preparing to undergo the sacrament, they gave us all little dixie cups of wine to try it. I approached it with the same enthusiasm and grace as I had observed, in one big, long, BBC America, gulp.

Apparently this wine had been sitting around somewhere improperly stored for quite some time, and it was the cheapest kind that you can buy in bottles, hey, not all parishes are made of money.

It was the most horrid sensation I'd ever experienced. It was such a sudden shock, I thought I was going to die. I ran to the toilet and vomited profusely.

I dislike cilantro leaves, but they aren't the worst thing I've ever tasted.

Hmmm, I think the shock of eating a big spoonful of rice only to find out my mil at the time had added sugar to it. It was so wrong! Rice is savory, not sweet.

Castor oil was quite horrible.

Earlier this year, I developed a large kidney stone (the first of several in the year, including one I apparently have now). I didn't know how large it was nor that I would need the surgery I eventually got, so I desperately tried a couple of popular home solutions for passing stuck stones even though I normally hate homeopathy.

This was how I ended up having to drink a measuring cup full of warm lemon juice and olive oil, followed by a huge glass of apple cider vinegar.

I did not end up holding either down, rendering the whole exercise pointless.

Brake fluid. It's the kind of taste that sticks in your mouth for hours. No matter what you do to get it out.

For those who have been to Nuka World, I mean, the World of Coca-Cola, surely they remember tasting Beverly. I went there as a kid and that is pretty much the only thing I remember about that trip.

More recently, I tried a soda my friend has. He collects and drinks from all over the world with weird flavors. This one was a salty yogurt soda from the Middle East. Disgusting.

When I was in Italy, I had the absolute misfortune of tasting this little abomination.

Chino, kids, not even once.

In Israel, I ordered a melon milkshake from this stand at the Dead Sea. Little did I know, a milkshake in Israel is the same as what's considered a milkshake in New England, so it was just milk with melon syrup.

California chards are the devil.

Also, gin. Just, fuck gin.

I had a Chinese chicken flavoured biscuit and holy shit, it was absolutely foul. I swear it's put me off chicken-flavoured instant noodles for life. I still feel nauseous recalling the flavour now.

Amphetamines: amazing on your brain, awful on your tongue.

Conversely, benzodiazepines taste pretty good.

Once, when I was a kid and for reasons I cannot account for now, I sprayed air freshener directly on my tongue. That didn't taste very nice. For the next several hours.

Lidocaine doesn't taste very nice either. Nor does any dental product that's not flavoured.

Earwax ain't nice either.

Some kind of a small bug. I didn't notice that it was on my finger, I absentmindedly put my finger on my mouth and somehow chewed the bug. Aside from the visceral disgust over eating an insect, it truly had a horrible taste; it was incredibly bitter.

I thought about this for a while, and I think it may be expired milk. A long time ago, my brother, sister, and I went to a summer program for kids at a nearby college. Before I was old enough to go, my dad and I would sometimes get breakfast from their cafeteria after dropping off my siblings, and on at least a few occasions, the milk I got was expired, but I didn't realize until after I opened it because of course not.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)
