I'm pretty neurotic about back injuries. I'm careful with all of my workout techniques, I do my research on them and I try not to overexert in any area. Despite this, I hurt my back somehow. My leading theory as to how it happened is that I stepped out of a bath awkwardly. The injury is not too serious, fortunately, but I am pretty miffed. It's really astoundingly debilitating. I can't work out properly, I can't get in and out of my car in any kind of dignified manner, fucking stairs are arduous, it's balls.
It reminds me of a story Stipe Miocic told in an interview once. He returned home from defending his UFC title (I think it was the JDS fight last summer) and fucked his back picking up his dog. A tiny furball did more damage to him than one of the most dangerous athletes on the planet. Miocic, who could beat up anyone in the world on a good day, has said an average guy would stand a fair chance against him if they fought after he had been mowing his lawn, because his back is so war-torn. He was probably being facetious, but still. Big, active individuals live in constant fear of back injuries.
"Tusser, they tell me, when thou wert alive,
Thou, teaching thrift, thyselfe couldst never thrive.
So, like the whetstone, many men are wont
To sharpen others, when themselves are blunt."
Anyone who has any kind of opinion fucking disgusts me.
