It is here, anyone whose doctor will write a letter saying "needs pet" has a Companion Animal; there's no practical side to it. I do know good shrinks consider it very effective, although I can recall when that was equally true without the letter or a name for it.
People who are abusive and neglectful (in whatever the hell directions, I've never seen anyone drive with a dog on their lap in my life, had to wonder how you even see that), are not those receiving therapeutic benefits, probably from any sources they may be using, because irresponsible jerk and having mental health concerns are not mutually exclusive ideas.
