What do you name your characters?

What are you playing. Hands out of your pockets!

I've been using iMURDAu since the 90s. Makes for awkward conversation in RPGs. I used the name Beavis in my first playthrough of Fire Emblem Awakening. I imagined every line of dialogue spoken to him in the voice of Butthead.

Every new game like Skyrim or Fallout, first character is named after me (William, or Wilhlim for fantasy games) for immersion purposes, since I always play a new experience as an alternative version of myself in so-and-so world, making choices that I would make in real life.

Second character will be an original character that plays with a style that doesn't fit me personally but that I want to explore. E.g. a female named June (my favorite female name) who is a stealth user and possibly evil/rougish.

Third comes after I've become familiar with a new game. Now that I know the world enough, I make a character that fits in better and has a goal/motivation that I want to achieve. For Skyrim, I had an charismatic tough-ass Orc named Golag the Giant Slayer (my goal is obvious with that one). For Fallout I made a character simply called Hammerfuck (big guy with porno mustache who was really good with explosives and big weapons. Also had both Lady Killer and Confirmed Bachelor, if he couldn't kill it, he'd fuck it)

haven't given a character a serious name in years. I always create a personality that the character has, then assign a jumble of syllables that sounds about right for them. It makes RPGs much more interesting because I have to imagine what they would do. Also, there is something funny about everyone trusting someone named 'Fank Stankus', or 'Dingus the Wise'.

I like naming my characters "Scooter" for some reason. When I played City of Heroes, I filled up all my slots on one server with characters named "Scooter 1", "Scooter 2" and so on.

I think it's because most of the time, I like giving games a test run, and it's easier to delete an army of Scooters than an army of Awesome Name Guys.

And, of course, every game I play has room for a character named Dasha Blade.

Tanglebones was my troll shaman in WoW, so that's my default name... although it only feels right to me on a bestial/unhuman type, and not a lot of games give you that character option. If I name a human, it's usually John Tanglebones (sometimes Edgar), but Tanglebones is never a human in a fantasy setting.

Orrent Geontene is human mage (that's ripped right off of an NPC from Morrowind, but I've beaten so many games as Orrent that I sometimes forget that). Wizards are my favourite thing to play (and I mostly play RPGs), so I probably use Orrent even more than Tangle.

If I play as a lady, I use Orana, Poliel Sumner or Kookle as feels appropriate for the setting.

My courier in New Vegas is named Dr. Hiram Talos, because that sounded to me like a name that belongs in a Western.

I've often felt like I should have a forum signature, but have always felt awkward about it. What if mine's no good?

For a cast, it depends on whether or not I'm currently watching a show. If I'm not, I just keep the names as they are. If I am, I'll name them after characters from that show.

For a lone player, I give male characters "Garrett" and female characters some female variant of that. If I'm playing as a particular archetype, I'll give them an appropriate name. So I've played as "The Demolisher" and "Rosie Riveter" in New Vegas.

I usually name them according to the game's setting. But for point and click games (I'm a sucker for those, especially from Big Fish Games), I always name my character Hermenegildo. It's a classy ass name

I typically go with Neriah (Ner-I-yah). I love the Biblical undertones (Neriah is Hebrew for Burning Light of God.) and the way it rolls off the tongue. The religious allusion also makes me feel more justified about all the times I consoled 900 Nazeems and Braiths into existence, massacred the shit out of all of them with my dark elf rogue and used the corpses to draw a giant dick-shaped crop circle running from the Cloud district to Dragonsreach-all without the guards noticing.
I don't need any justification about laughing when random citizens point at what I've done and go" Oh no, what happened?" though.

I'm playing DC Universe Online right now, and I called my man Kynek (ki-nec). I really dunno why, I suppose I was trying to be original and clever and after throwing letters around for awhile that's what I came up with. I wanted to created a villain with a story, I guess. He's supposed to be a humanoid figure made out of rock. I like to think of him as part of the Earth. He protects the Earth from potential threats, even if that threat happens to be mankind. I dunno, your guys names are all actually really cool so now mine feels dorky, haha. Anyways my username for *DC Universe Online is: SryimHi

That's actually my default name for everything, so if you so happen to stumble across SryimHi during your internet, say hi!

*I actually just downloaded the game Sunday, I'm still very new at the whole MMORPG thing, let alone this game.

I forgot to mention that I like to mess around with the special symbols when they're offered; I added a heart to my guy's name in Soul Silver because I happened to begin on a Valentine's Day. I use ~ marks in place of hyphens. And this is kind of cheesy but in Pokemon Black I tacked on a musical note and a heart because I always have a song in my heart.

I like playing as a sorcerer. Even if that isn't an option in the game, he will believe he is a sorcerer.
Appropriately, I like ridiculous hard-to-pronounce-and-spell names, to establish the character's sense of superiority.
"So who are you? Zach or something?"
"Idiot barbarian! You stand in the presence of the mighty and potent Xava’res’en~Ko’ta’sen~Xu’tris’el!"
and refer to him as Xava'res for short.
I've also used Kalumnix, for Warhammer Online.
Au'ten'lexet, for a Black Crusade campaign.
considering Ry'selph'nar for a biomancer.
