Guys, guys! This just occurred to me just now as I was sitting. I'm pretty sure that Hyrule, in the Zelda series, is basically a fictionalized, fantasy version of Spain, or at least it's highly influenced by Spain.
Clearly the game is set in Western Europe, from the architecture, physical features of the characters, etc. And there's no other place in Western Europe that has all the environments from the game. Hyrule has plains, forests, deserts, mountains, and Spain is the only place in Western Europe that has all of those things. Plus! The Gerudos are invaders, basically, from the desert. They dress in a sort of "deserty" way, they have darker skin, and they use curved swords. They're pretty much Moors. The Gerudo Valley theme is also basically a flamenco piece.
I don't have much more to say on this issue, but people told me I should post about this. Discuss!
