Irish that Irish music were more often played

What do you listen to?

Irish that Irish music were more often played

I'm surprised there's no thread for Irish (or even general "Celtic") music yet.

Since it's St. Patrick's Day, I'm starting one. I don't drink and I hate crowds, so for me St. Paddy's is an excuse to play Irish music at top volume, and to sing in public without people asking me to stop. (The way I sing people assume I'm drunk, and you don't mess with drunks on St. Patrick's Day.)

My two favorite Irish songs are:
"Black Velvet Band"

& "Star of the County Down"
I recall one Eid al-Adha in Istanbul, with another American, an Australian, and a several Turks. The other American and Australian were drunk, the Turks were Turks, and the Asian part of Istanbul was mostly empty because of the holiday. So the Aussie started us off with a song as we danced down the streets arm-in-arm like people in an old movie, and I got to sing this song.

Here's one for Australia:
"Wild Colonial Boy"

Here's one which caused bad flashbacks for an English coworker. Apparently, while he was camping in Ireland, some drunken Irishmen surrounded his tent and sang Irish rebel songs all night long, and this was one of the songs they sang. If it does qualify as an Irish rebel song though, it's pretty mild as they go.

"Hills of Connemara"

Edit: Changed the title, since it's apparently distracted everybody from the point of the thread.

As an alcoholic, I don't celebrate St. Patrick's day, as I don't actually need an excuse to get drunk.

Is anyone at all actually using this day to celebrate the man St. Patrick? I don't even know the guy. Didn't he chase snakes out of Ireland or some shit?

At least here in the South this holiday fills me groans. Everyone is driving drunk, the cops are out in full force. This is a great day to get killed or arrested.

I'm mostly celebrating that I lucked out and am not working the ER today.

I was just trying to come up with a title that was more creative than "Irish music" and didn't have a stupid pun about Irishing for something. Since the title apparently distracts from the point of the thread, I've changed it to the latter.

Point of the thread was that Irish music is awesome. Clearly titling it "Happy St. Patrick's Day" was a terrible fucking idea.

Flatley my dear, I don't Riverdance!

In the interests of getting this thread back into some semblance of on-topic, here's an Irish metal band I like:

(I don't know about actual traditional Irish music enough to know what to post without it being English oppression)

I didn't realize Altar of Plagues was Irish; that's a great album. Anyway...

The Irish Rovers - "Whiskey on a Sunday"

The Dubliners - "Whiskey in the Jar"

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)
