Epic Rocking (long songs)

Postby CleverDick » Sun Sep 15, 2013 11:19 am

In which we rock out for extended periods of time

Simply put, post songs that run for around 7 minutes or longer.

Getting the Pink Floyd out of the way:
Echoes
Shine On You Crazy Diamond-All parts 1-9
Pigs
'Dogs' got taken down on YouTube.

Talking Heads did cool longer versions of their songs live:
Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)
The Great Curve
Houses in Motion
Crosseyed and Painless

Them Crooked Vultures-Warsaw Or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up

Bob Dylan-Desolation Row

I'm gonna post this one again:

Sleep's Dopesmoker is my favorite long song (though I define long song as 20+ minute, or maybe just 15+). Clocking in at 63 minutes (let me know who sits through the whole thing, vocals start at about 8:20), it's the longest song I've listened to, (although, it isn't the longest song ever). It was recorded in 1996 and the band had to use 3 separate 22 minute reel-to-reel's to record it.

Other cool 7+ minute songs.

Meshuggah:

Bleed
Dancers To A Discordant System

Iron Maiden is known for their epics:

Hallowed Be Thy Name
Rime of The Ancient Mariner
Alexander The Great
Seventh Son of A Seventh Son

Black Sabbath:

War Pigs
The Sign of The Southern Cross

Some DOOOOOM:

Candlemass (The originators of the Epic Doom genre):

Dark Are The Veils of Death
Bewitched
A Cry From The Crypt

Burning Witch:

Sacred Predictions
The Bleeder

Sunn O))) (Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnn):

Richard
Big Church

Khanate (Have fun with this one):

Skincoat
Too Close Enough To Touch

(Hey, that's three bands in a row from Stephen O'Malley)

Melvins:

Boris

And finally, some thrash:

Dark Angel:

Black Prophecies
Leave Scars
An Ancient Inherited Shame

Tourniquet:

Harlot Widow And The Virgin Bride
The Skeezix Dilemma
Besprinkled In Scarlet Horror
Drinking From The Poisoned Well

Kreator:

Awakening of The Gods
The Pestilence

I, I think I got a little carried away there.

Do NOT sleep on this track my TCS brothers and sisters. Original Funkadelics Billy Bass Nelson and Bigfoot Brailey lay down a tight groove to nod your head to, and then guitarist Spacey T steps in at the 1:10 mark to TEAR THE ROOF OFF in tribute to Eddie Hazel with a 7 minute long "Maggot Brain"-style shred that cannot be denied. You must recognize that he is locked into the groove, TIGHT. Please refrain from using your earbuds- pull the plug out, turn this mutha up, close your eyes, and let it hurt. If you do not feel this track then I just don't think you will ever understand...

A good funk to you my fine sirs and madams.

I'd been meaning to listen to that Boris song for a while now and just never got around to it until now. It's pretty cool.

Bit of trivia for anyone not familiar, Boris was named after the Melvins song I posted earlier.
