Movie Night Suggestions

Postby JamesT » Sun Apr 21, 2013 2:27 pm

Our first Movie Night went off swimmingly and we're making it a regular thing! We have next week's film planned (Night of the Living Dead) but after that it's open.

Post your suggestions here. Remember to make sure that the movie you choose is

1. In the public domain
2. Awesome!

The all knowing wikipedia says it is. Here too.

Actually I think Cracked did an article on this too. I can't find it. It was about how it became a classic since it was put on public domain, and the TV networks that picked it up, ran it every christmas because you know, it was free-ish.

EDIT: Found it! Scroll up to #1

These are all made pre-1923 so should be in public domain.
The Kid
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Phantom Carriage
Nanook of the North
These are bit more recent, and in the public domain according to wiki.
Charade
Meet John Doe
His Girl Friday
A Star Is Born

Then how about Boris Karloff's "The Man They Could Not Hang", The Phantom of the Opera(1925), Freaks, or the 1953 House of Wax?

Nope, that's owned by someone too.

Here's a good list of public domain films in case anyone wants to check:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fi ... ates#Films

There's also the IMDb list, which contains more info -- LaChaise

edit: Phantom of the Opera is fair game, as is Freaks

There was a House of Wax before Vincent Price. Mystery of the Wax Museum was released in 1933. What's the cut off for public domain? (Fay Wray is a beautiful woman.)
