DevilMan: Crybaby

So, if you don't know, Netflix released a teaser trailer for a new DevilMan anime.

Now, I'm a bit late to the party as apparently this was announced 5 months ago. This is exciting for a number of reasons.

1. Netflix OC has not disappointed me, overall, yet.
2. DEVILMAN

It is rumored that is will follow the manga more then the anime, and I swear to god this would make me so happy. The drawing is dated now, but it was HUGE when it first came out. The violence and darker theme was new to the scene back in '72. The creator of Berserk and the creator of Evangelion have both been inspired by Devilman. Additionally (to my knowledge-I'm not perfect) the manga was one of the first to have a huge major WTF death. Like, you could not believe it happened and just kind of sit there. It was GOT'd the readers before GOT.

Anyway, I'm excited. It won't be available until Spring 2018, but that's ok. I can wait.

I am unfamiliar. I know, that'll get me hate but my next question will get me even more; Any plans on it being dubbed? It's a personal preference.

Couldn't really tell what it's about from that vid but that's what google is for right. Sounds fun though. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not surprised you're unfamiliar-the manga came out before even I was born!

I don't know about the dubbing.

Well, from what I've seen every anime that Netflix has an exclusive license for (little witch academia, knights of sidonia and Ajin) all have dubs. Considering this is a Netflix original, the chances of the show being dubbed is close to guaranteed.

IT'S OUT NOW.

The reviews seem promising.

BTW, if you're unsure know now this anime is beyond NSFW. Do not watch with kids. Do not watch around children. Why, you may ask?

Well....

I’m not usually one for watching the kind of action that follows, which ranges from slightly bloody to “I had no idea there was this much blood in a person.” People are decapitated. Men are bitten to death by demonic women’s bodies. Akira always seems on the verge of destroying someone, which adds a significant anxious tension to everything.

And, uh

While DEVILMAN: crybaby starts out as a somewhat silly, hyper-sexualized romp through perversion and, basically, pornography, I was impressed with how the series matures over the course of its 10 episodes.

I'm still super excited and have it on my list to watch.

Edit: Two guys binged watched it the day it came out, and if you're interested in their thoughts, here's the youtube:

So reposting this all from twitter sounds like a pain in the ass so i will just post my tweet chain here although i will post the summation of my feelings from the first tweet here.

I kind of love Devilman Crybaby. And by kind of I mean it's making me question whether other works that I have considered my favorites should really even be listed alongside it. Akira's struggle throughout the movie was exceedingly inspirational and disheartening.

Kotaku reviews what they loved about the series.

I mean, I'm going to be honest-it's not for everyone.

Spoiler: show
And I'm still haunted by a God who is so bitter towards being turned on by his creation (literally Satan) that he keeps them in a loop of pain and misery-if you're incorporating the other mangas/stories.
